There's a lot of diets and weight loss programs everywhere you turn today. It can get noisy with all of the misinformation out there. As Americans, we spend over $30 billion dollars annually on medical and nutritional health fraud. That's the college athlete who thinks they need supplements when realistically, a majority of the time they can get their nutrients from real, whole foods. It's the people spending money on weight loss products (which is a $40 billion industry) when again, they just need to eat right.
The way I look at it, we are just misinformed. We've lost sight about the basics of nutrition and instead choose the pill that's going to give us a kick start to weight loss and THAN will learn how to maintain it. What changed me from an avid dieter to a happy and healthy lifestyle was information. I really, truly took the time to learn. I have tried most diets, most weight loss pills and fat burning powders. THEY DON'T WORK. When I see someone go down that route I know what the outcome will be. The way that I look at it the best thing I can do is inform. So, here are some basic nutrition facts that can get you started on a healthy journey

![]() I approach health and my life in a holistic way. What does that mean exactly? It's not as scary as it sounds! To me it means that I view my body, my emotions, my physical and internal well being as a whole. I think taking care of myself mentally, physically and emotionally are all vital to my overall health. I believe if we just focus on our fitness but avoid our internal (or mental) health then we will never achieve our true greatness. I believe if we decide to rely on a weight loss pill but we don't work on the underlying issue of why we are overweight to begin with our results won't be lasting. When we focus on our internal happiness just as much as our physical fitness great things can happen. In the past 6 months or so I've taken my health to a new level. I began to learn more about chemicals, fragrance and all the bad things they bring into our homes. This image below is from Hol:Fit and I love how it describes the chemicals we are around every day. ![]() I approach health 100% differently than I did 3 years ago. I'm always learning and always growing. If my old self saw me today I would probably laugh and call myself a hippie. 3 years ago I was all about hitting the gym hard, getting in my protein shakes and living under the rule "no pain no gain". NOW, i'm all about eating plant based, using essential oils for everything , practicing yoga/meditation and always working on self love (woohoo!) Times are changing and although there are still quick fix programs and diets that people are buying into, I see a lot more open minded people looking for alternative ways to reach their goals. In my mind, I believe that our mind, body, emotions, physical appearance and lifestyle are all one. I think it's silly to focus on a meal plan or a workout regimen if we refuse to focus on our internal well being. I think it's pointless to come to class every day to workout if we're ignoring that fact that we still speak negatively to ourselves every day. It is up to us to view our body as a whole and to approach our health that way. ![]() Each month I try and choose a client in the studio that is going above and beyond. For October, I chose Lori. Lori has been with me for a few months now and her dedication and positive attitude amaze me. She is consistent in making it to the studio and truly making a full lifestyle change. You can read Lori's story below. Lori's Story I started at iamwell in August and I came because a friend asked if I wanted to try a kickboxing class. I remember being really excited to go but I never knew it was going to be the reset button on what I'd been doing on my own for the past 8 months. Hey guys! In this video I am going to share some healthier Halloween options to use this October. Enjoy! About 90% of my clientele at iamwell are moms. They are moms that love their kids more than you could imagine. They make sure the laundry is done, dinner is on the table and homework is taken care of. They volunteer in the classrooms, bring snacks to soccer games and taxi the kids around from dance lessons to gymnastics. They prepare their childrens lunches, make sure they shower, plan play dates, birthday parties and sleep overs. They rush their kids to and from every single event on his or her crazy schedule. They sneak a bite or two in when they get 10 seconds to breath and than it's back on the grind again. By night time they're exhausted and ready to crash in bed before starting all over again the next day.
October is here and I am giving you a different video every week of the month. Each video will have a Halloween theme to it so stay tuned and be sure to 'subscribe' to the iamwell YouTube channel to stay updated on all of our new videos. |
