![]() It's the first day of winter and i'm welcoming the cold weather with open arms. I love viewing life in terms of seasons. Always changing, always new things ahead of us. I use to think that life was full of goals I was always chasing and one day I would finally get there ( wherever 'there' was) and be happy, content and perfect. Obviously that will never happen and I've learned better through the years. Life is not perfect and i'm so happy it isn't! There are amazing times, messy times, sad times and happy. But the great thing about life is that it's always changing and you never know what to expect. My goals, thoughts and ideas are always evolving. They change with the seasons and I allow myself to live in the moment as best as I can. There are times in my life where certain things rank more important than others and instead of fighting it, I embrace it and let life do it's thing. Last month I was tired, worn out and constantly sick. I took a break on my own workouts, indulged more than usual and gave my evening classes to other instructors. This month I feel renewed, motivated and restored. I'm craving workouts, I have more energy and i'm finding and embracing my balance.

![]() I was the queen of resolutions. New year coming up? Fantastic, let me write out 20 things I am going to do differently. Rough weekend? That's okay Monday is coming up and I can write out a set of rules to follow. Any chance for me to reach perfection I would be all over it. Fast forward to a couple weeks later and I would be craving cookies like nobody's business and coming up with every excuse why netflix and a couch sounded better than the gym. As humans, we want things fast. We think that if we can follow a set meal plan and workout schedule perfectly, we lose the 20 lbs and life is grand and happy. I'm willing to bet a majority of us are waiting until after the holidays to get in shape. We are going all out on grandmas homemade pie and vowing January 1st we start a juice cleanse and weekly yoga sessions. I hate to be the bearer or bad news but for 99.9% of us it's not going to work. Gym's want to sell you on there New year New you promotions. Lose 20 lbs fast! Be in the best shape of your life! That might all sounds great after a big Christmas dinner, but in reality, when real life begins, pizza night with the family is going to sound a lot better than your juice cleanse. A little fun fact I recently learned was that on average we have around 5 lbs of bacteria in our bodies; mostly in our gut. Out of the 100 trillion cells in our body, only 10% are human, the rest are simply, bacteria. As a health enthusiast I find the human body to be very interesting. I think it's amazing how it can create new cells, heal itself and keep us alive and healthy. Its our job to nourish it correctly, move consistently and continuously learn new ways to care for it. So today, I wanted to talk a little about gut health and what we can do to optimize it.
So what does your gut do? Your gut is filled with trillions of bacteria (bacteria that we want!) that help digest food, fight off disease and hopefully leave you feeling energized and well. If you are consistently getting sick, fatigued or have more serious illnesses, your gut health could have a lot to do with it. |
