Scrolling through social media and I have seen hundreds of posts about clean eating, dropping pounds fast, starting new workout routines, being perfect for 21 days to create a habit and so much more hoopla I can't even take it. Every single one of you deserve to feel your best. You deserve to feel energized when you get out of bed. You deserve to slip your jeans on and feel comfortable. You deserve to feel nourished. Most importantly you deserve to love yourself.
The cycle continues every year; new diets, new workout plans, new rules and restrictions. These things ultimately will not lead you to feeling your best. Sure, you might lose a couple pounds in the first two weeks, but in the long run, you feel forced to workout, forced to give up the foods you enjoy and forced to follow this cruddy plan.
This journey that you are starting is only going to work if you focus on the internal. Getting healthy, creating a lifestyle, being happy....it's an inside job. Instead of telling yourself what you are going to start doing (working out every morning, cutting carbs, taking diet pills) shift that focus and figure out why. Why have you been emotionally eating for the past 5 years? Why have you never stuck with a workout program? Why are you overweight and tired? A workout routine and eating plan will only do so much. If you weren't able to do something consistently last month, why would a Monday, a new month or a new year change that? It's just a day. It doesn't care if you have low self esteem or body image issues. It doesn't care if you have an eating disorder. It doesn't care if you're a mom of 3 running the world. You have to work on yourself for this to last. You are worth the work. You are worth putting the effort in, being uncomfortable and focusing on something much greater than weight loss...focusing on yourself.
Don't tell yourself you're going to start Monday, don't tell yourself you're going to workout every day for the next 3 weeks. Don't make yourself a long list of things you're going to do perfect every day. The truth is things will come up. You'll wake up not feeling good, you'll crave dessert, you won't feel like working out. You will be exhausted and say screw it one day, and it's okay. Here's a secret You don't need to be perfect for this to work.
So, if you're still reading this I applaud you. I thank you for trusting me even the tiniest amount and hope that you view things differently this year.
At this point you're probably confused and thinking I want to change, if i'm not following a plan and working out how is that going to happen? Trust me, it took me years to figure that one out. So I will leave you with some of my tips. And remember, you don't need to be perfect at these. Maybe you implement one now, maybe you try it your way and three months later you decide to re visit this blog and try something new. Maybe you only take one thing away from this or heck maybe you're reading this and and thinking "this lady has lost her marbles". This is your journey, your body and your life. Choose what is best for you.
