I was the queen of resolutions. New year coming up? Fantastic, let me write out 20 things I am going to do differently. Rough weekend? That's okay Monday is coming up and I can write out a set of rules to follow. Any chance for me to reach perfection I would be all over it. Fast forward to a couple weeks later and I would be craving cookies like nobody's business and coming up with every excuse why netflix and a couch sounded better than the gym. As humans, we want things fast. We think that if we can follow a set meal plan and workout schedule perfectly, we lose the 20 lbs and life is grand and happy.
I'm willing to bet a majority of us are waiting until after the holidays to get in shape. We are going all out on grandmas homemade pie and vowing January 1st we start a juice cleanse and weekly yoga sessions. I hate to be the bearer or bad news but for 99.9% of us it's not going to work. Gym's want to sell you on there New year New you promotions. Lose 20 lbs fast! Be in the best shape of your life! That might all sounds great after a big Christmas dinner, but in reality, when real life begins, pizza night with the family is going to sound a lot better than your juice cleanse.
So, if you're ready feel your best (forever) you're going to have to take a different approach. Remember what I said, I use to be the QUEEN OF RESOLUTIONS. I use to be sluggish, tired, unhappy and willing to do whatever it took to feel good. I kept failing at all these promising diets and wondering why can't I feel good? Why can't I lose weight? Why can't I stop craving junk!?
Here are some reasons why I was stuck in a cruddy cycle.
So, what changes did I make?
So, as you navigate your way into 2016 I hope you set aside the new years resolution and instead start your journey now. It doesn't have to be a huge change, just a little step in the right direction. Go for a walk after work. Write out some things you love about yourself. Have a big glass of water and stretch for a bit. That's all it takes, honestly and truly. In class this week we made a list of all the things we did in 2015 that we were proud of, I encourage you to do the same.
Happy Holidays Ladies,
Remember you deserve to feel amazing and I will do anything I can to help get you there.
