How to teach your daughter to have a positive body image.
As moms, many of us gave birth to our daughters with a deep desire to raise them with beliefs promoting self-acceptance, healthy body images, and concepts propelling the idea they could be and do anything they wanted in life. However, despite the best intentions and efforts, many of us grapple with the reality that our girls are continuing to struggle with poor body image, disordered eating and a sense of worthlessness if they are unable to achieve an ideal size or perception of beauty or fitness. During this two-hour workshop, we will review current statistics about dieting, eating disorders and associated risk factors, and we will also discuss why the mother-daughter relationship is one of the most important influences on a young girl’s developing body image. Finally, we will focus on body image resiliency, specifically learning how to shift our self-talk, live within values of self-compassion and self-acceptance, and how to help ourselves and our girls embrace and foster a sisterhood of mutual support rather than competition.
